Part 4
Now that we were legally wedded, it gave me a sense of satisfaction and security; confidence that no one could part us, faith that sooner or later our families would accept us and our relationship.
We left the court and had lunch at a nearby restaurant. Then we drove to one of Piyali’s friends’ house who had gone to meet her parents at her home town in Ahmedabad for a week. She lived alone in a rented apartment and had handed over the keys to Piyali to once in a while keep a watch over her apartment in her absence for security reasons. For us, it was a chance to be alone after the happy denouement.
It was a day to celebrate, to make love; a day of togetherness; the moment for which we had waited for months. I longed to be in his arms, my thirst for his love, desire for his body, hunger for his lust, passion for his warmth, appetite for his kisses, greed for his fascination, yearning for our breathlessness, fantasies; all were coming true, all were being satiated. We were one again and made love like Adam and Eve. Away from the worldly pains and delusions, the moment was ours and we wanted to make the most of it.
And then, the moment of separation had come again. He had managed to come only for a day which was over again in a flash. Our minds knew that we had no choice then, but our hearts would not let us part. We hugged each other tight for a long time, didn’t want to lose even a second before we parted. He cupped my face with his hands and kissed my lips. The moisture was there to stay for days. He held my hand and brought me to my car.
He whispered with tears in his eyes, ’I love you kuchikoo! Can’t live without you. I wish things were not so difficult. Shall call you once I reach home. You take care and don’t worry. My secret wife is my loveliest possession.’ He said trying to cheer me up.
Bidding adieu felt like death!
***
The world was still oblivious to my Hidden Husband. Days passed with no better news or change. My stress levels were mutating to a depression phase.
My parents knew my trauma although they were still unaware of our legal wedding. They could feel my intense love for Raghav and kept thinking and hoping that I would forget him someday; they kept coming back to me with various attractive proposals which I kept rejecting with some or the other excuse. My true choice they always knew; still ‘never’ knew. Poor souls! They were trying to cheer me up at every occasion, trying to see a smile on my face, trying to know if there was more to what they were imagining, something more which was bothering me.
I hated myself.
Was I any different from Raghav? I was doing exactly the same thing. Hiding everything from my parents the way he did.
